Baby scrapbook page

I finally got around to photographing some pages from my scrapbook.  This is the first page in the first scrapbook when my daughter Lillianna was born.

Dancing Penguins Pop Up Stage

Hi all, my pop up stage tutorial is this week's technique challenge over at SCS.  If you would like to play along, the challenge number is TLC289.  The thread is located HERE.  My pop up stage tutorial is located HERE.

This is my entry into the challenge.  I got to use my new Cottage Cutz Penguin Doll.  This is a set of dies with Peachy Keen faces.  I cut the bodies out of textured black, textured white and textured pumpkin.  Sponge the edges of black with white craft ink, the white pieces with going gray and the pumpkin pieces with cajun craze inks.  Their scarfs are real red, celery & marina mist taffeta ribbon.  I also got to try out the polar white flower soft.  The snow drifts were created by tearing pieces of shimmery white cardstock and applying some glue along the tops of the drifts and adding flower soft (I wish you could see this in the picture, it's so much prettier in person!).  The designer papers are from a Stampin' Up! DSP called Candy Cane Christmas.  The card body is made from baja breeze and the stage is shimmery white cardstock.  I created a belly band to wrap around the outside of the card to keep it closed and embellished with red satin ribbon.

Let's Face it Fridays

Hello everyone, I just wanted to share my excitement!  Peachy Keen has created a new Design Team for their face stamps and I'm on it.  I've been having so much fun adding their faces to my projects.  They add so much character and fun to punch art, don't they?  Our first challenge is on the 17th.  If you don't have any face stamps, you should hop on over and check them out.  They are having a 7 Year Anniversary sale for the month of September.  If you get your stamps before the first challenge, you can play along and win fabulous prizes!  I will also be offering some blog candy over the next 3 months, so you won't want to miss it.

For details and bios of the other team members, please visit the challenge site:
http://peachykeenstampschallenge.blogspot.com/2010/09/lets-face-it-fridays-announcement.html

If you haven't purchased any of the PKS stamps yet but are eager to get some, I recommend the following sets for the Halloween/Fall/Christmas season:

I'm looking forward to showing you all of the character and fun that you can add to your punch art.  But, don't fear, you will also still see my patented teardrop eye characters as well.  The PKS line is great for those of us that just can't get the faces perfect and want that extra something special on their punch art.

Pop Up Stage Technique

Hello all, it's time for another interactive card!  This card looks rather complicated but is very simple to make.  I created another Halloween card.  This one uses stamps by Rubbernecker and MFT and features a little punch art as well.  The first shot is what the card looks like on the outside.  There is a belly band that wraps around the outside of the card to hold it closed.  Please see the step by step instructions below to make a Pop Up Stage card.

Pop-Up Stage Instructions:

1) The base is 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" (night of navy) folded in half.  The pop up stage is 5 1/2" x 5" (green print).  Score along the shorter side at 1/2", 4" and 4 1/2".

2) Use your fiskars cutter or a ruler and xacto knife to cut several slits into the top.  Make slit a little longer than 1/2".  Choose the number of figures or object you are going to put on the stage and cut those many slits.  Keep in mind that the figures on the stage should not be taller than the measurement from the slit  to the outer edge of the stage, otherwise, when you close the card, the figures will be peeking out from inside the card.

3) Add score tape (or glue, sticky strip, etc.) to the outer 1/2" sections as shown.  Apply the tape along the score line.

4) Adhere the stage piece to the inside of the card base.  Line up the bottom of the stage piece along the center fold of the card base as shown.

5) Cut several pop up tabs 1/2" x 2".  Cut as many tabs as you need for all of the slits on the stage.  Score one end at 1/2" and add score tape at the score line.

6) Pull the backing off the score tape and carefully put the tab into a slot.  Make sure that the little tab is facing the center of the card as shown.  While holding the card open at a 90 degree angle, carefully adhere the tab to the card base so that it's parallel to the card back.

7) Once all of the tabs are in place, fold the stage edge under and adhere to the card base as shown. The card will fold nice and flat if you fold the stage end under, remove the backing on the sticky strip and then carefully close the card. Smooth and flatten card closed.  The edge of the stage will ahere to the base of the card as shown.

8) This is what the card looks like when it's fully opened flat.

9)This is what the card looks like when opened at a 90 degree angle.  Now you can decorate with your own images.  Remember that the height of the figure can not exceed the length from the base of the tab to the outer edge of the stage, or it will stick out when the card is closed.

I embellished my card with grass that I cut using an MFT die.  The tombstones were created by punching a Stampin' Up! Wide Oval punch and cutting off the bottom.  Snip away some little wedges to look like a crack.  Use a zig pen to draw on some cracks and RIP.  Sponge the edges with basic grey ink.  The mummy and greeting is from Rubbernecker and the tree and owl is from My Favorite Things.

For the belly band, cut a strip that is 3" x 12" and another that is 1 1/2 x 12".  Wrap the wider band around the closed card and tape ends together with score tape (but make sure not to get it stuck to the card base).  Wrap the smaller band around the center of the wider band and tape. The witch is by Rubbernecker and was watercolored with stampin up ink pads and a blender pen.

Minnesota Fair here I come!

I get to go to the fair tomorrow!  I'll bring on some more punchy goodness after I come out of my food induced coma.  Seriously, I think the Minnesota fair is one of the largest fairs in the country and it by far is the biggest bonanza of food in once place that any human could hope to find.  If you can deep fry it and put it on a stick, then they have it.  Nowhere else on earth could you have aligator on a stick, chicken fried bacon, deep fried fruit on a stick, jurassic corndogs, deep fried candybars on a stick and sausage stuffed jalapenos all within a 20 yard radius.  Of course, I always hit my favorites, funnel cakes, fruit smoothies, gizmo sandwich and potato tornado. I'm on the hunt for the elusive scotch egg which is a hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage and deep fried in a corn dog style breading.  Oh, and I gotta try the fresh fruit kabobs dipped in dark chocolate.  I think they'll have to haul me out in a wheelbarrow....

EDIT
So, I'm back from the fair and I've found a new favorite!  I read on one of the news sites that the food to eat this year is the chocolate, marshmallow and banana grilled sandwich sprinkled with powdered sugar.  It tastes like banana cream pie paired with pastry. YUMMY.  Oh, and I found the scotch eggs over by the horse barns.  It was decent but not as good as I had anticipated.  I didn't get to try the wild rice hamburgers like I had planned but I found a good stand that was selling 32 oz lemonade for only $2 (outside front of the international bazaar).    I took my daughter to the kidway for rides.  Of course, we blew through a sheet of tickets in 15 minutes but there were no lines so that was nice.  It was really hot out there today!  Thankfully the windy conditions helped control the humidity.   Not as crowded as I had anticipated either.  I skipped the cheese curds this year. The greasiness is just too much for my stomach.  I did get my funnel cake and the strawberry smoothy.  As usual, I ate way too much sweets and scrimpted on everything else.  I did manage to avoid drinking a soda all day which is a first!  I brought a water bottle and refilled at the culligan booth a couple times.  If anyone out there is planning on going to the Minnesota fair, you gotta try the grilled chocolate, marshmallow and bananas sandwich!  it's right by the south entrance in front of the Birth Center.

Look who's in the pumpkin patch! sliding pop up

I had a lot of fun making this one!!  Thank you to Kathy for giving me the opportunity to guest design for Peachy Keen.  I got to play with these awesome Cottage Cutz dies paired with face stamp sets.  This card turned out so so so cute!  Instructions are below the pictures.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To make this card, follow the assembly instructions for the sliding pop up card HERE.  The card dimensions are different, so cut the pieces for this card as follows:

5 5/8" x 5 5/8" for the black patterned paper
5 3/4" x 5 3/4" for the early espresso cardstock backing on the black patterned paper
(layer both pieces, then score at 1 1/2" as shown in the assembly instructions)
1 1/2" x 13" green patterned paper (you will need to glue 2 pieces together for the length)
6" x 6" orange pattern paper (I glued together 2 of these to create a cardstock weight thickness)
2 1/4" x 1 1/2" early espresso cardstock (pop up backing for cat) - scored at 1/2"
1" x 1 1/2" early espresso cardstock (pop up mechanism for cat) - scored at 1/2" on each end
2 3/4" x 1 1/2" early espresso cardstock (pop up backing for bear) - scored at 1"
1" x 2" early espresso cardstock (pop up mechanism for bear) - scored at 1/2" on each end
1" x 2 3/4" early espresso cardstock (pop up mechanism for card back) - scored at 1/2" on each end (you may want to double the thickness of this piece to add stability

PUNCH ART & DIE CUTS:

Large pumpkin is made of 3 Wide Ovals and small pumpkin is made of 3 of the 1 3/8" Circles punched out of pumpkin pie cardstock.  Sponge the edges of all pieces with cajun craze (or really rust) ink.  Stamp the faces using the Peachy Keen pumpkin face stamps.  Glue 2 pieces together for back of each pumpkin and attach stamped piece to front with dimensional.  For small pumpkin, hand cut a stem out of chocolate chip cardstock and glue to top.

Punch the 1 3/4" Circle in summer sun cardstock for the moon.  Sponge the edges with cajun craze ink.  Punch out 3 black bats.  Glue moon onto back piece and attach bats with dimensionals.

Die cut the Tear Kitty in basic gray and going gray cardstock (pink pirouette for ears).  Stamp the face of choice on the face.  Stamp the face again on muzzle die piece (mouth, nose and part of the whiskers).  The die comes with 3 different PKS face stamps.  Line up the muzzle piece over the stamped face and attach with a dimensional.  Add whites to the eyes with a uni-ball white gel pen.  Punch out 2 of the 1/2" Circles for paws.  Sponge edges of cardstock with white craft ink.  Attach belly piece with dimensional.  Glue on pink ear pieces.  Attach paws to large pumpkin with dimensionals.  Glue kitty onto back of pumpkin.

Die cut the Tear Bear in close to cocoa & creamy caramel cardstock.  Stamp the face of choice on the face.  Stamp the face again on muzzle die piece (mouth and nose).  The die comes with 3 different PKS face stamps.  Sponge edges of all pieces with chocolate chip ink.  Line up the muzzle piece over the stamped face and attach with a dimensional.  Add whites to the eyes with a uni-ball white gel pen.  Attach belly piece with dimensional.  Glue on ear pieces.  Glue legs onto bottom of body.  Attach small pumpkin to front of bear with dimensionals.  Attach left arm with dimensional.  Glue right arm on.

Stamp greeting (Rubbernecker) with early espresso ink onto cajun craze cardstock.  Punch out with wide oval punch and layer onto decorative label punch (black print paper).

I really hope you get a chance to try out the Cottage Cutz dies with stamps.  These are awesome for paper piecing.  I used my Sizzix Big Shot to cut with the dies.  I found that it wasn't necessary to attach the thin foam backing to the die since the die cut perfectly with the platform and all tabs closed, sandwiched between the 2 clear cutting plates.  If you use a different die cutter, you may find that the foam backing is necessary to get a good cut, you can experiment with both, since the foam backing will peel off if you don't need it.

I hope you all enjoy this project as much as I did!
