If you could only have 10 punches...

Someone once asked me what punches I couldn't live without and of course, I responded "all of them!".  But seriously, let's say that a paper punch terrorist invaded my craft room and said they were going to take all of my punches except 10, what would I keep? Boy, that is one hard question!  I realize that not everyone out there has as much money to invest in punches, yet they want to make as much fun punch art as possible, so this is my recommendation for getting the most "bang for your buck" when it comes to punches.  I find that I use the following Stampin' Up! punches most often (catalog order numbers provided are for the USA catalog):

Ornament (119847)
Wide Oval (119859)
Large Oval (119855)
Small Oval (119863)
1 3/4" Circle (119850)
1 3/8" Circle (119860)
3/4" Circle (119873)
1/2" Circle (119869)
Modern Label (119849)
Heart to Heart (119881)
Scallop Circle (1198534)

Ok, I just couldn't pare it down to just 10. But 11 is still good!  If you are looking at building an ESSENTIAL punch collection, I would also add Boho Blossoms (119858), Full Heart (119883) and Round Tab (119864).  The new medium oval (120908) punch from the holiday mini is one of my new favorites for punch art.

Does anyone have a good solution for storing and toting the new flat style punches?  I'm rather peeved that Stampin' Up! has announced they are completely abandoning the storage boxes they put in the current catalog.  They have gone as far as printing new catalogs that don't include those items in it.  GRRRRRRR

Notice I shortened the title?  I wanted to condense the space used on my archive listing.  The inspiration will still be for punch art, but I wanted to make my headers shorter!

Happy flower window tent cart

When I saw this technique on SCS, I just had to try it!  Go to the Split Coast Stampers resource library HERE to get instructions on how to make a window tent card (the overall dimension of my card is 6x6).  I used a combination of new and retired Designer Series Papers to make my card.  For the flowers, I used the new hostess 6x6 paper pad.  For the outside of the card, I used Woodland Walk and for the inside, a retired set called Fall Flowers.

To make the flowers, you will need the following Stampin' Up! punches:

Fancy Flower (concord grape flower)
5 Petal Flower (baby flower)
1 3/4" Scallop Circle
2 3/8" Scallop Circle
3/4" circle
1 1/4" Circle
2 Step Bird

Punch 2 of the fancy flowers out of concord print paper.  Punch 2 of the 5 petal flower out of poppy print paper and punch 1 each of the scallop circles from peach parfait print paper.  The leaves are the wing from the 2 step bird punch in pear pizazz print paper.  Stamp the Simple Sallies faces from Peachy Keen onto so saffron cardstock and punch out 2 of the 1 1/4" circles and one 3/4" circle (its easier to stamp first and then punch out the faces).

Cut 3 strips of 1/4" wide wild wasabi cardstock.  These will be used for the flower stems.  To make them sturdy, fold the strips in half and glue together.  I cut strips that are about 8" long and folded them in half.  You can then trim away what stem you don't need.  Sponge the leaves with wild wasabi ink.  Sponge the so saffron pieces with more mustard ink.

I added some highlights to the faces with a white unibal gel pen and I used a blender pen and regal rose ink for the cheeks.  I colored the mouths solid with a black zig pen.  To add dimension, attach the flower layers together with dimensionals.  I used a Die-namics grass die and cut 2 strips of certainly celery and 2 strips of wild wasabi to layer on the inside of the frame and behind the flowers.

The greeting is from Occasional Quotes hostess set and is stamped on shimmery white with concord grape.  the base of the card is made from certainly celery cardstock.  I layered pumpkin taffeta ribbon onto the daffodil satin ribbon for the bow.

Peachy Keen Challenge #35

Good morning everyone!  I'm excited to say that I'm a guest designer for the Peachy Keen Stamps Blog Challenge #35.  This challenge is a dual challenge.  There is a sketch and a color combo to be used together.

As you can see, I turned the sketch vertically so that I could utilize a Double Slider technique. The little monster is basically the same as my Monster Mash without the horns. The circle in the center of the card is 4" in diameter. It's just large enough to cover the slider slots. The face on the cute little monster is Peachy Keen stamps, of course. It is from the Monster Mash Face Assortment. I added some white to the eyes with a white unibal gel pen.

Head over to the Peachy Keen Stamps Blog and participate in the challenge for a chance to win a great prize!!!    HERE IS THE CHALLENGE LINK

Problems viewing the site

Hi all, I've gotten random reports lately from people having troubles with ordering classes at the site and getting error messages or can't view certain pages of the site.  This appears to be happening more often lately and it appears to be an Internet Explorer issue.  If you encounter any problems with the site, please use Google Chrome to surf the site.  I highly recommend ditching Internet Explorer all together.   Chrome is faster and safer than IE.  For those sites that only support internet explorer, you can download a free plug-in from cnet.com which gives you a "view this site with internet explorer" tab.  Here is the download location of Google Chrome and the plugin download at cnet.com

Monster Mash treat box

This little guy was fun to make.  Once again, I got to use some more of my Peachy Keen stamps to make his cute face.  I added highlights to his eyes with a white uni-bal gel pen.  Make a treat tube following instructions HERE.

To create the little monster, you will need the following Stampin' Up! punches:

Ornament - head
Wide Oval - body and arms
2 Step Bird - ears
1" Circle - horns
Word Window - legs
Boho Blossoms - hands and feet
punch body pieces in certainly celery.  I used a printed paper for the horns.

1) clip the bottom off the ornament.  Punch half of the wide oval.  Line up the punch over the punched hole and punch the arm.  Punch another arm.  Cut one word window in half for the legs.  Clip 2 of the petals off of the 5 petal flower from boho blossoms to create a hand.  Clip between the petals to form fingers.  Trim the large flower from boho blossoms to create the foot.  Punch 2 wing pieces with the 2 step bird punch for the ears.  Sponge the edge of all pieces with wild wasabi ink.

2) punch half of the 1" circle in black.  Line up the punch over the hole and punch again to create a half moon.  Cut the piece in half to form 2 horns.

3) stamp face onto ornament.  Add white to eyes with uni-bal gel pen.  Glue ears and horns onto head.  Mount head onto body with dimensional.  Glue on arms.  Attach hands with dimensionals.  Glue on legs and attach feet with dimensionals.

I stamped the greeting onto rich razzleberry with a Rubbernecker stamp.  Punch out with modern label.  One end of the box is fastened with a satin pumpkin ribbon.

Challenge with some blog candy - Extended to the 20th

hello everyone, I hope by now you all got to see my little gingerbread treat tube instructions yesterday.  The link to my tutorial is here: http://www.paperpunchaddiction.com/2010/08/gingerbread-punch-treat-tube.html

All you need to make the base tube is the fancy flower punch for the top and bottom of the tube.  This tube is surprisingly big once assembled.  You could easily fit at least 2 or 3 ounces of m&m's or other candies inside.  These make great party favors or small gifts.

I would love to see what you can do to create your own personal design using the base instructions to create the treat tube.  How about a halloween tube, easter or valentines tube?  The possibilities are endless.

I am issuing a challenge and the winner will get a fabulous prize - a large box stuffed full of stamping and scrapping goodies!!!! I had to clear out my craft room and I realized that I just have way too much paper and embellishments.  Now I can share the wealth.  To enter the contest, you only need to follow some simple steps:

1) create a sample using the treat tube instructions  from my blog.  Decorate your box in your own original style.  Post a picture of your creation on your blog or in your splitccoast stampers gallery.

2) add a link to your blog post or SCS gallery entry in the following link list.  Please do not provide a link to your homepage.  Please provide a direct link to the specific post.

3) please provide a link in your blog post or SCS gallery photo details to my blog for instructions on making the basic treat tube.  Be sure to use this link:
http://www.paperpunchaddiction.com/2010/08/gingerbread-punch-treat-tube.html

The challenge will run from today until the 16th.  I will randomly draw a name from the entries.  Please note:  Due to the cost of shipping, I can not ship this large box of goodies outside the states.  However, I will provide a second smaller prize for any entries submitted by readers outside of the United States.  Thanks everyone for participating!

new punch class coming soon

Hi all, I know it's been ages since I've come out with a new punch class.  I'm happy to say that I'm almost finished with designing a new collection called "In the Garden".  You will be delighted with these new critters.  After that, I will be focused on a new halloween collection and then a holidays 2010 collection.  I anticipate having the garden collection completed and posted later this week.

Gingerbread punch treat tube

Hi all, I thought there had to be some way I could use the Stampin' Up! Fancy Flower punch to create a fun treat tube box.  I added a cute little punched gingerbread to finish the look.  Instructions are below.

Tube Box Instructions:

1) Punch 2 Stampin' Up! Fancy Flowers out of bravo burgundy cardstock.  Cut 5" x 4 1/4" pirouette pink cardstock (emboss with an embossing folder of your choice, I used sizzix dots).  Cut 2 strips of bravo burgundy 1" x 5".  Punch the Stampin' Up! Scallop Border on the 2 strips (you may substitute a different border punch or simply leave it unpunched and change the width of the strip to 3/4").  The ricrac diecut was created with a die from Paper Trey Ink.  You could use ribbon instead.

2) On the long side of the 5 x 4 1/4" cardstock, score at 7/8, 1 3/4", 2 5/8", 3 1/2", 4 3/8".  Sharpen all of the score lines.  Put some score tape (or sticky strip) along the 5/8" section.  Form into a pentagon shaped tube and secure with the tape.

3) On the 2 fancy flower punches, use a ruler and scoring tool to score along the base of each petal to create a pentagon in the center.  Sharpen the score folds.  Place one on an end of the tube.  The petals should lay flat against each side of the tub.  Glue the petals onto the outside of the box to seal the bottom.  Wrap the scallop border piece around the bottom of the tube (sharpen the edges as you wrap it around by pinching the cardstock at each corner) and glue in place.

4) For the top of the tube, you need to make a removeable top.  Don't glue the petals down on each side of the tube like you did in step 4.  Instead, just hold in place and apply some glue on the outside of each petal.  Wrap the other scallop border piece around the tube and glue onto the petals to create the top.  If you have the ricrac or ribbon, you can add that on the top and bottom caps.   Decorate the removable top.  Add a ribbon, button or greeting on top.  I used a pink corduroy button.

5) Decorate the rest of the box.  I added a strip of glittered paper 1 1/2" x 5" around the center of the tube.  I used the Love Nest papers from My Minds Eye.

Need some more guidance?  Check out my video here: http://www.paperpunchaddiction.com/2011/04/pentagon-treat-tube-video.html

Punch Art Gingerbread Instructions:

Punch the following pieces out of creamy caramel cardstock using Stampin' Up! punches:

1 3/8" circle for the head (it will be easier to stamp the face first and then punch out the circle)
Wide Oval for the body
4 Small Ovals for the arms and legs
2 of the 1/2" circles for the hands
2 of the 3/4" circles for the feet
2 of the 1/4" circles for cheeks

For the face, stamp the face from Peachy Keen onto creamy caramel, then punch out using the 1 3/8" circle punch.  Don't you just love these cute face stamps?

1) Clip away the bottom on each of the 3/4" circles to create the feet.  Sponge the edges of all caramel pieces with chocolate chip ink.

2) Add some white highlights to the eyes using a white unibal gel pen.  Glue 1/4" rose circles onto the cheeks. Color the nose with cherry cobbler marker.  Color icing onto head with white gel pen.

3) Glue the small ovals onto wide oval to create body.  Attach 1/2" circle hands onto arms with dimensionals. Attach the 3/4" circle feet onto legs with dimensionals.

4) Glue on ricrac or add icing with white unibal gel pen.  Add heart to chest with dimensional.  Attach head with dimensional.  Attach gingerbread to the tube.  I added him off center so you can see more of the box.

Hooty Party tilt card

I made a spinner card years ago but I hadn't tried the tilt card.  I then got this idea to making a little dancing party owl.  When you shake the card, he does a little shimmy (he's in the classic Saturday Night Fever pose)!  It's pretty cute.  Go to the SCS Tutorial to find out how to make a basic tilt card.

Instructions:

1) Punch 7 modern labels in close to cocoa cardstock.  Trim 2 of the labels to narrow one end.  One of the labels is rounded out at the bottom and another small piece of cocoa is cut off to create a small branch. Sponge the edges of all pieces with chocolate chip ink.  Layer 3 labels for the widest part of the branch.  Layer 2 and glue onto the end and glue one label on the end of the branch.  Attach the smaller branch with a dimensional.

2) Punch 2 scallop circles in certainly celery, wild wasabi and garden green textured cardstocks.  Sponge the edges of all pieces with wild wasabi ink.  Glue onto branches.  Attach the top layers with dimensionals.

3) For the owl, punch the body in basic gray, belly in going gray, feet and beak out of pumpkin pie.  Punch 2 basic gray wings with the 2 step bird punch.  Sponge the edges of the basic gray pieces with white craft ink.

4) For the hat, punch 1/4 of the 1 3/8" circle.  Then line up the same circle over the top of the small semi circle and punch out the circle.  It will look like a circle with a small piece punched out of one side.  Fold in the sides to create the hat.  Punch the pompom on the hat with the boho blossom punch.

5) for the party horn, punch the small vertical slot punch and glue that piece onto the end of a modern label.  Clip away the sides to create the horn.

The greeting is from My Pink Stamper in a set called Punnylicious.

Ginger bite double slider card

When I spotted this Ginger Bite stamp from Peachy Keen at the CHA supershow, I just had to have it!  I laughed out loud and instantly thought of how great this would go with the greeting set I bought from MFT.  I used the new ricrac die from Paper Trey Ink.  I used creamy caramel, early espresso, cherry cobbler, shimmery white and watercolor cardstocks.  I watercolored ginger with crumb cake, really rust, early espresso, cherry cobbler and baja breeze.  The ribbons are the satin vanilla and riding hood red taffeta.  I added glitter to the white frosting on ginger (although you can't see it very well). Cherry cobbler is embossed with a sizzix folder. The card was created using the SCS Double Slider Tutorial.

Pumpkin double slider card

Here is another card that I've been wanting to try out.  It's called a Double Slider.  You can find the instructions at SCS HERE.  I used really rust and chocolate chip cardstocks for the card base and slider backings.  I used a retired Stampin Up DSP.  I think it may have been called Outlaw?  The Stampin Up greeting set I used is called FYI.  The ribbon is the pumpkin pie satin with the dusty durango polka dot in the center.

Notice the cute little faces on the pumpkins?  They were stamped with PK-550 Pumpkin Faces from Peachy Keen.  They make all sorts of fun faces for animals, people, snowmen, etc.  I'll be the first to admit that I don't draw faces very well, so I was so excited when I found these stamps!  I just added a little white highlights to the eyes with a white unibal gel pen.  The pumpkins are punched out of textured pumpkin pie cardstock.  The largest one is 3 wide ovals, middle one is 3 large ovals  and the small one is 3 of the 1 3/8" circles.  Sponge the edges of pieces with really rust ink.  I cut the large heart from Heart to Heart in half out of old olive cardstock to create the leaves and freehand cut the stems out of cocoa cardstock.  The center section of each pumpkin is raised with a pop dot.

Hope you all like my little pumpkin card!

Fall Frolic page spread

These pictures were taken when Lilly was only 1 year old.  I really love these pictures. The papers I used are some retired Stampin Up DSP.  I think it was called Fall Flowers?  The stamps I used for the leaves are also Stampin' Up! (sorry, I can't remember the name of the set).  I used my Cricut with SCAL to cut the title.  I used the Stampin' Up! photo corners punch for the multi colored photo corner embellishments on the 2nd page.  That punch is great for creating cute layered photo corners.

Helping Hudson - a Wheely Great Cause!

Good morning everyone.  Today is the official first day of the fundraiser to help Hudson get a Kid Walker!  I donated an exclusive new design for the Punch Art Package.  This cute little beetle is so versatile. You could try changing his colors to create a different look.  It's a larger piecing, so it would work great for scrapbooking as well.  Please support this great cause and go to the site to order.  The bundles are listed as $10 Australian Dollars each.  When converted to US Dollars, they are only about $9.50 each.  That's a bargain for 10 different designs per bundle!  The tutorials will be delivered to you via email after paying through paypal.

http://helpinghudson.blogspot.com/p/tutorials.html

Below is a look at my design included in the Punch Art package.  Following that is some more information about this wonderful cause.

It’s true when they say that a little goes a long way, and I’m here to tell you about how a simple purchase of some fun -filled paper craft tutorials can give freedom to a little boy!

Hudson is 2 ½ but unlike most children his age, he has had a tough little life!  Doctors realised he had an incomplete brain before he was born and as a newborn he was discovered to be legally blind.  Hudson has recently been diagnosed with both Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy!  His mobility has been hindered severely by his disabilities, however his family and friends wish nothing more than to give him the chance to get moving on his own. Hudson needs a special Wheelchair/Walker, called a Kid Walker. This device will help get him mobile, allow him to play with his brother and sister, interact with other children his own age and give him independence in his day to day life!

This is where the stamping world really comes into play! When a group of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators are asked for help they come to the rescue, ink and paper in hand, to work miracles. This is what has happened around Hudson over the last few months. First with his mum’s direct team, and then spreading out across Australia and New Zealand and over in to the US, the UK and Canada! His story has touched so many people so its time to share it with you all!

There is a HUGE online stamping event taking place, called Helping Hudson -A Wheely Great Cause!  The organisers have been working really hard, securing support, tutorials and donations to get this event underway. There are going to be three weeks of stamping fun for you to join in – come back as often as you can, there will always be lots more to see, do and learn. It kicks off on the 1st August and will run right through until the 22nd. You’ll find it at http://helpinghudson.blogspot.com

When you come on over to the blog you’ll find out all about Hudson, his family and his cause! But, more importantly, you can DO SOMETHING TO HELP HUDSON, at the same time as helping yourself learn how to make some great new paper craft projects. How? By purchasing bundles of tutorials kindly donated by Stampin’ Up! demonstrators the world over.  Each bundle has 10 fun-filled tutorials for just AU$10 (This is approximately $7.75 in US Dollars)! And there are six themes to choose from: Bags & Boxes, Christmas, Kids’ Birthdays, Projects for Men & Boys, Punch Art & Scrapbooking. There’s even a FREE bonus bundle if you buy four or more. WOW how exciting! All proceeds go directly to help Hudson.

And we would love you to help spread the word too. Check out the ‘Spreading The Word’ page at the site for all you need to know to get the word out to as many people as you can.
C’MON LETS GET HUDSON MOVING!!!!!
